Troubleshooting
What to do when something is off, and the questions people ask first.
Every reply describes the request instead of answering it
No engine was ready, so the echo engine answered. Settings › Engine shows which engine is selected and what each one needs. The usual cause is Claude Code not signed in, or not on the PATH the app sees: set VALHALLA_CLAUDE_BIN to its full path.
macOS asks me to confirm the first launch
That is expected the first time. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and press Open Anyway next to Valhalla. On Windows, the matching step is More info › Run anyway. You only do either once.
The window is blank
Quit and reopen. If it stays blank, reinstall from the download page; your conversations and settings are kept.
"Could not bind a port"
Something else holds port 8777 and the ten after it. Change the port in Settings › Advanced › Window.
Faces are drawings instead of paintings
The pictures did not install. Reinstall from the download page.
Questions
Does anything leave my machine?
Your messages and the material assembled around them go to the AI provider you configured, and nowhere else. Valhalla has no server of its own. The only request to this website is the optional once-a-day update check, which sends the version and the platform and is counted as an anonymous tally. The privacy page has the whole of it.
Can I use it at work?
Not under the personal edition. See Valhalla for companies: the commercial edition adds accounts, an admin console, a shared library and the Android app.
Is there a Linux build?
Not yet. The installers are macOS and Windows.
Where is the source?
The interface is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript served from inside the app, with no build step, so you can read the thing you are using. The repository itself is not public.
